After breakfast, begin a fascinating half-day tour of Taipei, starting with the iconic Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, followed by a drive past Presidential Square. Visit the magnificent National Palace Museum, which houses over 5,000 years of Chinese imperial treasures. Witness the Change of Honor Guards at the Martyrs’ Shrine and admire its classical architecture. Continue to a traditional Taiwanese Temple before browsing crafts at the Taipei Handicraft Centre. Taipei → Sun Moon Lake: ~250 km / 3.5 hrs
After breakfast, travel through Central Taiwan’s mountains to reach the serene Sun Moon Lake, located at 762 metres above sea level. Visit the culturally significant Wenwu Temple, dedicated to Confucius and Kuan Ti, then explore the Holy Monk Shrine and the scenic Ci En Pagoda. Later, check into your lakeside hot spring hotel. Enjoy the therapeutic waters of the Fleur de Chine Hotel and spend the afternoon walking, biking, hiking, or taking a leisurely boat ride. Overnight stay in the tranquil Sun Moon Lake area.
Sun Moon Lake → Foguangshan: ~140 km / 2 hrs
Foguangshan → Kaohsiung: ~30 km / 40 mins
Begin your day with breakfast, then pass by the quaint Jiji Railway Station en route to Fo Guang Shan Monastery, Taiwan’s largest Buddhist complex. Join a guided walking tour of the Buddha Memorial Centre, learn about Buddhist philosophy, and interact with monks and nuns. Vegetarian lunch is available at your own expense. Later, continue to Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s vibrant southern port city. Visit the romantic Love River and explore the lively Liuhe Night Market. Check into your Kaohsiung hotel for a relaxing overnight stay.
Kaohsiung → Kenting: ~110 km / 2 hrs
Kenting → Taitung (Chihpen): ~120 km / 2 hrs
After breakfast, drive south to Kenting National Park, known for its tropical landscapes and coral-lined coastline. Visit the striking Eluanbi Lighthouse, enjoy panoramic views at Longpan Park, and capture stunning ocean scenery at Maobitou. In the afternoon, travel via the scenic Southern Link Highway to Taitung, where you’ll check into Hotel Royal Chihpen, famed for its natural hot springs. Relax in mineral-rich pools and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings. Overnight stay in Taitung.
Taitung → Hualien: ~175 km / 3 hrs
After breakfast, embark on a journey through the East Coast National Scenic Area, often called “Taiwan’s last unspoiled haven.” Experience dramatic coastal landscapes shaped by geological forces at Xiaoyeliu, Sanxiantai, and Shitiping (Stone Steps). Visit a local marble factory and showroom to learn about Taiwan’s marble craftsmanship. Continue north to Hualien, gateway to Taroko National Park. Check into your hotel nestled in nature and enjoy a restful evening surrounded by the tranquillity of the gorge. Overnight in Taroko.
Hualien → Taipei: ~165 km / 2.5 hrs (via Suhua Highway & Syue-Shan Tunnel)
Start with breakfast and head into the breathtaking Taroko National Park, where marble cliffs tower above turquoise rivers. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Tunnel of Nine Turns, Ci Mu Bridge, Swallow Grotto, and Eternal Spring Shrine (Changchun Temple). On the return journey to Taipei, stop at the dramatic Cingshui Cliff, offering one of Taiwan’s most spectacular coastal views. Drive through the Syue-Shan Long Tunnel (12.9 km) before returning to Taipei for your overnight stay.
Enjoy your final breakfast in Taiwan before checking out. At the scheduled time, transfer to Taoyuan International Airport for your departure flight. Carry home wonderful memories of lakeside serenity, tropical coastlines, mountain gorges, spiritual encounters, and the rich cultural warmth of Taiwan.
