6 Days / 5 Nights – FIT Tour
Meet on arrival and drive past emerald tea gardens and rolling hills to Gangtok. Check in by early afternoon and unwind. At 3:00 PM, amble down MG Marg—a pedestrian boulevard dotted with cafés, bakeries, and local craft stores. Sample momos or thukpa and get a feel for the city’s easy rhythm. As dusk lights up the promenade, settle back at your hotel for a warm dinner and quiet night—perfect acclimatization before tomorrow’s alpine excursion.
After breakfast, depart by 8:30 AM for Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft), a sacred glacial lake two hours away. Watch the landscape shift from rhododendron forests to alpine scrub before the mirror-still waters appear. Stroll the boardwalks, photograph prayer flags, and opt for a gentle yak ride along the shore. Warm up with butter tea and local snacks (own cost). Return to Gangtok by late afternoon; evening free for MG Marg cafés, souvenir shopping, and a relaxed dinner.
Begin at Rumtek Monastery, seat of the Karmapa, then continue to Do Drul Chorten, Jhakri Waterfall, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, and the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms for curated crafts. Post lunch (~1:00 PM), drive to Kalimpong. Check in by 4:00 PM, then explore Deolo (Dello) Hill for sweeping Himalayan views, charming Flower Nurseries, Dr. Graham’s Homes, the Nature Interpretation Centre, and Durpin/Durbin Dara Hill for sunset hues. Overnight in Kalimpong.
After breakfast, transfer to Darjeeling, the “Queen of Hills.” Post check-in and lunch, visit Tenzing & Gombu Rock for light climbing photo-ops, the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre (closed Sundays) to see traditional weaving, and a heritage Tea Estate for a guided garden walk (optional). As evening cools, stroll Chowrasta & Mall Road, sip estate teas, and browse bookshops. Dinner and overnight in Darjeeling.
Wake to crisp mountain air. After breakfast, visit the Japanese Temple & Peace Pagoda for tranquil city views, then the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (home to red pandas; closed Thu) and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute museum. Pause at a café for lunch, then keep the afternoon free for shopping or optional add-ons like the Darjeeling Ropeway or Batasia Loop & War Memorial. Return to the hotel for dinner and a cozy overnight.
Enjoy an unhurried breakfast and last stroll along Mall Road for teas and souvenirs. Check out by 11:00 AM and drive to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station. Depart with fragrant teas, monastery bells in memory, and photo reels of lakes, gardens, and colonial boulevards.

Oct–Apr brings crisp skies and chilly nights; Apr–Jun is pleasant with flowers; Jul–Sep is misty with possible road delays. Mornings/evenings get cool year-round—pack layers, light thermals, and a rain jacket in monsoon.
Many families visit comfortably with slow pacing. At 12,400 ft, walk gently, keep warm, and stay hydrated. Avoid strenuous activity, heavy meals, and alcohol. If anyone has heart/respiratory issues, consult a doctor in advance and keep personal medicines handy.
Consider Nathula Pass, the Gangtok Ropeway, Darjeeling Ropeway, Batasia Loop & DHR toy train, and a tea-estate factory tour. Hotel upgrades to rooms with views or heritage properties elevate evenings. Pre-book popular activities during weekends and holidays.
