Taipei → Sun Moon Lake: ~250 km / 3.5 hrs
Begin the day with a delicious breakfast before departing for the stunning Sun Moon Lake, resting 762 metres above sea level in Taiwan’s lush central mountains. Visit the impressive Wenwu Temple, dedicated to Confucius and Kuan Ti, followed by the Holy Monk Shrine and scenic Ci En Pagoda. After sightseeing, check in to your hotel. Enjoy access to natural hot springs, lakeside walking trails, biking, hiking routes, and optional boating. Spend a peaceful, rejuvenating night at Fleur de Chine Hotel or similar.
Sun Moon Lake → Foguangshan: ~140 km / 2 hrs
Foguangshan → Kaohsiung: ~30 km / 40 mins
After breakfast, travel via the charming Jiji Railway Station, a historic wooden station surrounded by rustic scenery. Continue south to the renowned Foguangshan Monastery, Taiwan’s largest Buddhist centre. Enjoy a guided tour of the Buddha Memorial Centre, learn about Buddhist culture, and interact with monks and nuns. Lunch is at your own expense—vegetarian meals are highly recommended. Proceed to Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s energetic port city. Explore the romantic Love River and lively Liuhe Night Market. Overnight stay in Kaohsiung.
Kaohsiung → Kenting: ~110 km / 2 hrs
Kenting → Taitung (Chihpen): ~120 km / 2 hrs
After breakfast, drive south to the tropical beauty of Kenting National Park, famous for its 37 miles of coral-fringed coastline. Highlights include Eluanbi Lighthouse, Maobitou Scenic Area, and wind-sculpted Longpan Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. In the afternoon, continue through the scenic Southern Link Highway to Taitung. Check in at Royal Chihpen Hotel, known for its natural hot springs. Spend the evening soaking in mineral-rich waters and relaxing in the peaceful forested surroundings. Overnight in Taitung.
Taitung → Hualien: ~175 km / 3 hrs
Begin your day exploring the East Coast National Scenic Area, often called “Taiwan’s last unspoiled paradise.” Admire dramatic geological formations at Xiaoyeliu, cross the iconic arch bridge to Sanxiantai, and witness wave-carved stone terraces at Shitiping. Visit a local marble factory and showroom to learn about Taiwan’s famous marble craftsmanship. Continue to Hualien, gateway to Taroko National Park, where you’ll spend the night in a serene hotel amid spectacular natural landscapes.
Hualien → Taipei: ~165 km / 2.5 hrs (via Suhua Highway & Syue-Shan Tunnel)
Enjoy breakfast before experiencing the breathtaking grandeur of Taroko Gorge, carved by the Liwu River through solid marble mountains. Visit iconic sites such as the Tunnel of Nine Turns, Ci Mu Bridge, Swallow Grotto, and Eternal Spring Shrine (Changchun Temple). On your return drive to Taipei, stop at the majestic Cingshui Cliff overlooking turquoise waters. Travel north through the Syue-Shan Long Tunnel (12.9 km) before arriving in Taipei for your final overnight stay.
After a delightful breakfast, check out from your hotel. At the scheduled time, you will be transferred to Taoyuan International Airport for your flight home or onward adventure. Carry with you wonderful memories of Taiwan’s lakes, temples, gorges, mountains, and cultural richness.
